ChildRoots, a small family of locally and woman-owned child care centers in Portland, Oregon, is seeking teacher-qualified Break Support staff for all locations to start immediately. Since 2007, our progressive, play-based schools have fostered curiosity, collaboration, and consent in an enriching learning environment.
About the Role
A Break Support at ChildRoots plays a vital role in ensuring teachers can recharge while maintaining continuity of care for children. This role is ideal for individuals who are:
Flexible and comfortable working in 2–3 classrooms per day.
Adaptable and adventurous, excited to engage with children across different age groups.
Strong communicators with a passion for supporting both children and fellow educators.
Committed to fostering a compassionate and supportive workplace where everyone's efforts are valued.
Responsibilities
- Provide reliable break and lunch coverage for teachers across assigned classrooms.
- Assist with classroom transitions, supporting children’s learning and independence.
- Collaborate with multiple classroom teams to ensure continuity of care and a positive learning environment.
- Adapt to the needs of different classrooms while maintaining consistent, nurturing interactions with children.
- Qualifications & RequirementsTo be considered for a Break Support role at ChildRoots, applicants must:
- Meet the teacher-qualification criteria as set by the Office of Child Care requirements.
- Be currently enrolled in Oregon's Central Background Registry (or start your application today and complete it upon receiving your enrollment confirmation).
Complete Oregon’s Safety Set Trainings and other required certifications:
- Pediatric CPR/First Aid Course
- Oregon Food Handler's Card
- Introduction to Child Care Health & Safety (online course)
- Recognizing & Reporting Child Abuse & Neglect (online course)
- Prevention is Better than Treatment (online course)
- Safe Sleep for Oregon's Infants (online course)
Compensation & Benefits
At ChildRoots, we believe in pay equality and transparency. All Break Support staff start at $19.10 per hour, with:
- Step-level increases based on qualifications.
